An old fable tells us of three men who went to a jungle and saw a ferocious animal coming towards them. The strongest one tried grappling with the animal and got injured. The one who had no courage to fight escaped and ran away. The third one who realized that he cannot fight or run off, chose to play dead to save himself.
The defensive game of playing dead continues as modern-day depression when people cannot escape or fight to meet the challenges of life.
It can begin by simply convincing yourself and others that you are unavailable and incapable of facing a stressful situation. You then wall up literally or metaphorically, to remain unavailable and unapproachable.
However, escaping from the sadness and the gloom becomes virtually impossible.
It could be sadness or a feeling of being directionless, feeling there's no one around you or with you.
What if you could face the situation with courage and wisdom rather than spiraling down into despair and depression?
Make an active choice to bounce back from that ‘low’ phase of life. Every wave has a trough and a crest. Nothing lasts forever. Change is inevitable.
So, why not now? If you choose, you can feel better in a few minutes.
Seek help from experts and professionals, if needed.
